We have a split central system, 3 tons, and need to replace our 16 years old furnace and air conditioner. We will be upgrading from a 8SEER a/c.
I usually prefer to keep things simple. When looking at the 15SEER and higher efficiency systems, to me they look like one repair could wipe out any dollar savings in energy costs over the 13SEER systems. Maybe my math is wrong, but it doesn't like like I would save much money with a 15 SEER system vs. 13SEER, anyway, even if no big repairs were required since we don't plan to live in this house for over five years.
Any recommendations? Reliability is most important, and how well the manufacturer backs up their warranty is next on my list. Difficulty of repair is very important, too, including diagnosis, availability of parts, etc.
Are there any that I should avoid? |

weezer,
I believe a system properly sized, created, installed, and maintained is the most efficient system invested in. 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, or 19 SEER have their benefits when they are NEEDED.
reply if you would like more info
