Many years performing loads with Wrightsoft Right-J program, but am fairly new to the spray insualtion applied to the underside of the roof.

1. Since there is no insulation barrier between the attic and conditioned rooms below, should the attic be included in the load and how? You can't zero out your ceilings because you still have a heat load in the form of the roof.

2. How do you account for the additional square footage (wouldn't a 1200 sq ft single story house actually be 2400 sq ft)? I mean you are indirectly conditioning the attic, particulary during heating seasson. It would certainly add an extreme amount of volume to the house.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or places you might direct me to address these issues.

pn,
I would say that you could design that room as you would a kneewall conditioned but not included in calc. Have you done a knee wall calculated for different pitches?

purenut,

I did some further research with a rep who worked with Wrightsoft for over 8 years. The best soluton for your calculation would be your attic space that is insulated with the sprayed foam should be added to your rooms below and just increase your ceiling height from the floor to the height of the insulated attic.

Your construction info for ceiling in Manual J8 would be a ceiling under unvented attic, Make sure you get some type of writing from the insulator on R value, post the note on info sheet (CYR) cover your you know what.

I hope this helps. lol
